Remembering Granny Anne

Sunday was my husbands birthday.  As, I watched Sunday Morning on CBS, I saw that the last day for The Guiding LightI began to think back on my brief time as a fan.

When the Hubs and I first married, I would go visit his step-mom, and she was an avid fan that never missed The Guiding Light ...at least, not on purpose!  I began to be drawn in, as she explained the story line, and what had led to this point.  I loved the commentary!

The Hubs loved his step-mom's cooking.  So, in honor of his birthday, I made a wonderful old-fashioned pound cake that is his favorite.  I have never found a pound cake recipe that I like more.  It is simple, to the point, and tastes like grandma used to make.  I got the recipe from her, in the late '70's, and it has been a family favorite all these years!
Mrs. Potts Pound Cake

Ingredients:

2 sticks of butter               5 large eggs
2 C. sugar                         1 tsp. vanilla
2 C. flour

Cream butter and sugar.  Break eggs and add one at a time, beating for 1 minute after adding each one.  Add flour a little at a time.  Add vanilla and beat until well mixed.
Bake at 325* for 1 hour.  Let cool for 15-20 minutes.  Turn out on a plate and enjoy!

We enjoyed Hubby's birthday, and celebrated memories of Granny Anne (that's what the grandkids called his step-mom).  She passed away, about 3 weeks before our first child was born.  We will always talk about and share her memory with them...glad of the time we had together, and saddened that they did not get to know her.
